kudo's to the Hennessey brother's 06/30/09 07:47:51 PM [14 Comments]
I must admit that I'm probably bias on this subject, that of which I have never had any dealings with a union and never hope that I have to. With reading this story all I can say is two people saw an opportunity and they took action. In doing so a lot of people from north Toronto are very grateful, I know I would be if a public service sector stopped providing service and someone else came along and offered it for a fee. I would pay it to get rid of the garbage . I ask myself is what they are fighting for or I should say the union is fighting for worth it in this time of global recession. Is 18 paid sick days off worth risking their jobs , and what is the union doing except making themselves look bad ! to me anyway is what I come out of it with. I was happy to see that some business men from P.E.I went up there to help out those people in north Toronto , good job IN MY OWN OPINION [Click Here For Full Discussion]

East River pollution spill - Hambly companies 06/30/09 07:14:47 PM [0 Comments]
I sincerely hope the various government departments charged with enforcement of enviromental laws hold the Hambly organization fully responsible and accountable for the sewage spill that originated from one of their businesses - the trailer park along the Hillsborough (East) River. Talk about crapping on/in a public resource and flinging shit on the shellfish fishers, to say nothing of the principle of holding polluters responsible for their actions. If they are going to operate these communities renting the land and selling the trailers/minihomes, then they must invest and properly maintain the systems that allow the business to operate and generate a profit --such as sewage systems! Same goes for any polluter like a swine farmer whose lagoon breaks, the cattle farmer who does not fence his streams, or road contractors who fail to protect watercourses when building. But as Wayne Hambly owner/president multimillionaire said on Tuesday on CBC radio [color=#BF0000]"life will go on"[/color] - what a thing to say. I don't think he gets it yet. To the owner of the Silver Dakota 06/30/09 01:37:23 PM [14 Comments]
To the owner of the Silver Dakota that parked in the Hyndman's parking lot on the corner of Queen and Dorchester, your truck was towed because you parked in the space belonged to a dark blue Saturn hatchback. She must really like that space, she called to get you towed instead of just parking in one of the many other available spaces in that lot. I'm sure she had every right to. The reason for the thread though, is that when you get you Silver Dakota back, I would check for damage to the back bumper and hitch, and maybe underneath by the drivers side door. Your truck took a few good hits from the Coopers towing guy. Next time just throw a buck in the meters on Queen. [Click Here For Full Discussion]

Stop receiving sales flyers 06/29/09 08:18:19 AM [10 Comments]
You know those sales flyers we receive each Thursday? You can easily stop receiving them if you just end up recycling them anyway. Just call The Guardian's Circulation Desk and ask them to stop delivering the weekly sales flyers to you. It was surprisingly easy and I've just saved a bunch of paper. Charlottetown over-run with mice. 06/28/09 08:23:54 PM [8 Comments]
So, the mice around Charlottetown is part of the same money spent to create the new signs and John A.? Or more funding from somewhere else? Cute idea, but too bad the article in the Guardian didn't give more information about them. Like who created them, commissioned the mice, how many are around Charlottetown? Why the mouse? Another cute idea that lacked a proper finishing to make it an interesting project. [Click Here For Full Discussion]

how the police/fire/ambulance vehicles make it through an intersection against the light? they must have nerves of steel. they go through fairly fast, and have yo look very quickly in all directions literally at once. watched them today at the by pass /brackley point road intersection. no idea how the driver did it. Bell Aliant bundles 06/27/09 04:13:40 PM [4 Comments]
I've been seeing the ads seemingly everywhere for the Bell Aliant bundle where you get high speed internet, Bell TV, home phone and long distance for $95/month. Right now I have everything through Eastlink (basic cable, local phone & high speed) which is $116/month (or around there). Has anyone taken advantage of the Bell Aliant deal? Any thoughts/comments? I had Aliant high speed internet years ago and always hated it. Anyone have any comments on what it's like now? [Click Here For Full Discussion]

The Future of Food 06/26/09 01:33:44 PM [4 Comments]
The Future of Food is a documentary produced by Deborah Koons Garcia, wife of the late Gerry Garcia. I just watched the whole thing and it's a real eye-opener about what's happening with our food supply and our farms. It's over an hour long but it takes that much time to tell the things that are going on. I thought it was too long to watch but I couldn't stop until the end because even though I was scared of what they were telling us, I was more scared not to know.
There is a revolution happening in the farm fields and on the dinner tables of America -- a revolution that is transforming the very nature of the food we eat. THE FUTURE OF FOOD offers an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade. From the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada to the fields of Oaxaca, Mexico, this film gives a voice to farmers whose lives and livelihoods have been negatively impacted by this new technology. The health implications, government policies and push towards globalization are all part of the reason why many people are alarmed by the introduction of genetically altered crops into our food supply. Shot on location in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, THE FUTURE OF FOOD examines the complex web of market and political forces that are changing what we eat as huge multinational corporations seek to control the world's food system. The film also explores alternatives to large-scale industrial agriculture, placing organic and sustainable agriculture as real solutions to the farm crisis today. Do whatever it takes to see this documentary. It starts off looking a bit boring. But stick with it. The film picks up steam after the first ten minutes, and then.... you will be left shaking your head in disbelief.
